Dry type transformer is a transformer rely on air convection for cooling, generally used for local lighting, electronic circuit of the transformer. In the electric power systems, the turbine transformers, boilers transformers, transformers ash, dust transformers, transformers desulfurization are all dry type transformer. The ratio of Dry-type transformer is usually 6000V/400V and 10KV/400V, the rated voltage for the load of 380V. In a word, dry type transformer is refer the transformer that the core and windings are not immersed in insulating oil.
The cooling way of dry type transformer can be divided into cooling natural air cooling (AN) and forced air cooling (AF). Natural air cooling, in which dry type transformer can continuous operating under the rated capacity for a long-term. Forced air cooling, in which the dry type transformer output capacity can be increased by 50%, it is suitable for intermittent operation or emergency incident overload operation. Because under the excessive load situation, the load loss and impedance voltage has a larger increase in non-economic running, so it should not used in a long time continuous overload operation.
